Written entirely by Treacy and produced by Nick Autry, “Dissonance” continues a forthcoming EP for which Treacy is the sole writer on every song — underscoring the deeply personal perspective and unfiltered storytelling that run throughout the project.

“Dissonance” begins with a painfully familiar situation: watching someone go through something you’ve already experienced yourself. Knowing where the road may lead can create an overwhelming urge to intervene, but it can also bring back emotions you thought you had already put behind you.

For Treacy, the song grew from the tension between wanting to reach someone and realizing that love alone cannot make another person ready to change.

“It’s about watching someone go through something you’ve already lived through, or something you struggled with yourself,” Treacy says. “There’s a helplessness in it — not knowing what you’re supposed to do, not really wanting to relive it, and wondering if somehow it’s your fault. At some point you have to come to terms with the fact that some things aren’t yours to fix.”

The song’s chorus captures just how far that instinct to help can reach:

“I would climb to the mountaintops / To see you smile again / Be worth my while again…”

But beneath that devotion is the song’s more difficult realization. You can reach out. You can offer everything you have. You can make it clear that you are there. If the other person isn’t ready to take what you’re offering, however, the rest is out of your hands.

That emotional contradiction — caring deeply while relinquishing responsibility for an outcome you cannot control — sits at the center of “Dissonance” and gives the song its name.

The September 11 release marks the third preview of Treacy’s forthcoming EP, a body of work built around emotionally candid storytelling and the complicated spaces between certainty and doubt. Originally from Los Angeles and now based in Nashville, Treacy has been steadily carving out her own lane as a songwriter willing to linger in unresolved feelings rather than force them into easy conclusions.
