Hundreds of Veterans to attend adaptive golf clinic in Iowa

RIVERSIDE, Iowa, Sept. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — More than 200 Veterans from around the country will take part in the 2026 National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic, Sept. 13–18, in and around Iowa City, Iowa. The event focuses on providing rehabilitative activities including golf for disabled Veterans as part of their therapy and care plans.

Participants are Veterans with blindness or limited vision, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, limb loss and other life-changing injuries.

DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs co-present the six-day clinic with support from businesses, nonprofit organizations and individual donors.

“The National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic allows Veterans to come together to form meaningful connections, strengthen bonds of camaraderie and support one another in their ongoing journey of health and recovery,” said Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins. “Each challenge embraced and each experience shared serves as a foundation for continued growth when the Veterans return home.”

“For many ill and injured Veterans, including myself, adaptive sports are a gateway to regaining a sense of independence and purpose in our day-to-day lives,” said Dave Riley, a quadruple amputee who chairs the event. “It’s incredible to see people’s growth after just a few days working with recreation therapists and coaches in this environment.”

“Year after year, this golf clinic remains a world-class event, and we’re so proud to co-present with our partners at the VA,” said DAV National Commander John Donovan. “It’s an event that brings together the most passionate clinicians, the latest adaptive sports technology and tried-and-true therapies in a supportive community—with the goal of helping Veterans in their recovery journey.”

More than 300 volunteers are expected to donate their time and effort to the event, which is hosted by the Iowa City VA Health Care System.
