Dimenso is building the infrastructure to change that.
The Boston-based company has developed an AI-powered platform that uses smart glasses, computer vision, and voice interfaces to understand and capture laboratory work in real time. The technology helps scientists automatically document experiments, structure observations and experimental data, track protocol execution, and identify potential deviations without interrupting the way they work.
Dimenso has now raised $650,000 in funding led by Draper B1, with participation from Next Tier Ventures, to accelerate the deployment of its technology across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and research organizations.
Based in Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the center of one of the world’s leading biotechnology ecosystems and near institutions including MIT and Harvard, Dimenso is developing what it describes as a Physical AI layer for scientific execution.
Unlike traditional laboratory software, which largely depends on scientists manually entering information before or after an experiment, Dimenso captures scientific work directly as it happens.
Through computer vision, voice interaction, and contextual understanding of scientific protocols, the platform can capture and structure actions, observations, and experimental data in real time — creating a traceable digital record of the experiment while reducing manual documentation.
The goal is to turn physical laboratory execution into structured, analysis-ready scientific data that can ultimately feed existing laboratory systems such as electronic lab notebooks and other scientific software platforms.
Bringing AI Into the Physical Laboratory
While artificial intelligence has rapidly transformed computational research and data analysis, the physical execution of experiments remains significantly less digitized.
Dimenso is focused on closing that gap.
Its technology enables scientists and laboratory operators to wear AI powered smart glasses that can talk, listen, and see whenever assistance is needed. The system can guide users through procedures, capture experimental context, identify deviations in real time, and preserve information that might otherwise be lost during manual documentation.
According to company data, Dimenso can reduce the time scientists and operators spend on administrative tasks by up to 65% and accelerate the analysis of experimental data by as much as 20x in supported workflows.
Errors or missing information during laboratory execution can force teams to repeat experiments, creating delays that may extend for weeks or months and significantly increase R&D and operational costs.
