Smart glasses are one of the most talked-about accessories in fashion and tech. This mother-daughter company gives them a wardrobe of their own.
DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — As smart glasses, led by Ray-Ban Meta, move beyond technology and into fashion, PaprDoll introduces patented, removable wraps, a fashion layer that transforms their look in seconds. Frame design, color and style are becoming an increasingly important part of how the technology is introduced to consumers as the category expands.
PaprDoll is approaching that opportunity from a different direction.
Founded by mother-daughter team Maria Moore Barnwell and Elizabeth Barnwell Meier, the Dallas-based eyewear company has developed a patented product: removable, reusable fashion wraps that apply in seconds across the surface of compatible eyewear, changing the color, texture and finish without permanently altering the underlying frame.
For Maria Moore Barnwell, PaprDoll co-founder and former Essilor executive, the opportunity reflects a fundamental change in eyewear itself.
“I spent decades in the optical industry, when the primary function of a frame was relatively straightforward: it held lenses,” said Maria Moore Barnwell. “Today, that same frame can house cameras, microphones, speakers, sensors and AI. The utility of eyewear has evolved dramatically, and I think that requires our industry to rethink what consumers need from something they wear on their face. We’re no longer designing around a frame alone. We’re designing around an interface between people, technology and the world around them.”
That evolution creates a natural use case for PaprDoll. Smart eyewear can be a significant investment, and as more technology and value move into the frame, consumers have even more reason to keep the same pair.
PaprDoll makes the look interchangeable.
“We switch up our jewelry, makeup, handbags and shoes every day,” said Elizabeth Barnwell Meier, PaprDoll co-founder. “We wanted to bring that same freedom to eyewear, in a way that’s fun, simple and economical.”
The company currently designs AI glasses wraps for compatible Ray-Ban Meta styles as well as its own line of traditional eyewear, with plans to expand compatibility as the smart-eyewear category grows.
PaprDoll calls it the fashion layer for smart eyewear.
From Fashion to Function
As smart glasses have evolved, PaprDoll has also begun exploring what an interchangeable layer on eyewear can do beyond changing its appearance.
In 2026, amid growing debate over cameras on faces, privacy and smart-glasses etiquette, PaprDoll introduced the Courtesy Cover — a removable, reusable overlay for compatible Ray-Ban Meta glasses that covers the camera area when a wearer chooses not to use it.
The idea came from a simple question: Not everyone wearing smart glasses is recording the people around them. But how do people around them know?
The Courtesy Cover gives wearers a visible way to cover the camera while keeping their glasses on, extending PaprDoll’s patented product from fashion into new functionality.
“New technology creates new etiquette,” Barnwell Meier said. “As smart glasses become part of everyday life, the people around you may want a tangible cue that you’re not recording them. Covering the camera is hard to misinterpret. The Courtesy Cover gives wearers a simple way to provide that reassurance.”
A New Eyewear Habit
PaprDoll has sold more than 10,000 wraps, as customers begin treating the appearance of their eyewear less like a permanent choice and more like something they can dress up or down.
The company was named a 2025 Accessories Council Design Excellence Awards finalist in Technology and Innovation, and its appliqué is protected by U.S. Patent No. 11,726,353, with additional patent claims pending.
